Marina is the preemie daughter of friends of mine who live in Rochester, NY. Dan (programmer extraordinaire) and Joanne (literacy champion and public school teacher) (her parents) are fabulous, fabulous people, the kind you want to spend a night playing poker with because they wouldn't fleece you THAT badly. I met their eldest son, Mason, last year and he was a Bakugan MASTER, I tell you.
Marina was born with several congenital defects that require medications, surgeries (yes, plural), and trips to specialists in Pittsburgh, PA, which is not near Rochester, NY. I just found out that they are asking for donations to help offset the expenses not covered by insurance. The family will have to spend significant amounts of time in PA and pay for hotels, food, travel costs, etc. If you can, consider putting what you'd usually pay for a night at the pub or that laaaahge cuppa joe at your favorite java hut into their tip jar to help them out. There's a PayPal account set up that you can access on their website. They are good people so let's give Marina the chance to become another good person in this world.
